Flute talk – Don’t over think this stuff

May 4, 2019 by Bob
Jazz Flute

Much in the same way one wakes up hungry for their breakfast… I woke up with a hunger to play When the Saints go Marching in and got right on it. Simple can be best so that is exactly what I did. I picked up my flute and got started.

After having lived for over 5 years in Copenhagen Denmark than for 22 years in Seattle both really nice places to live but wet, wet , wet… It is very cool  to be able to get out into the shade before it gets too warm and just play breathing fresh outdoor air.

As a question I pose… does one need a book to learn this tune and the same goes for the tune Happy Birthday? I think not .

Too much serious can be a drag. Playing a simple tune and getting comfortable with a good feel and starting off of  different notes while being musical with the melody… is fun and sort of like doing a morning crossword puzzle, at least for me.

I am not talking to just flute players but to all of my brother and sister musicians.

What is the saying? Take what you like and leave the rest.
